We have a young team and you can look at our roster to see it. We have some amazing athletes and people in our program, all still learning what it takes to play at a high level consistently and that is what we saw this week in our preparation for the Northwestern Challenge.
We had practice Monday that includes individuals sessions, each position coming in to get some extra reps. Then we had our usual Tuesday and Wednesday team practice and took off on Thursday to head to Chicago. Our girls were a little unfocused all week, not giving the intensity and focus the staff wanted in each drill. It wasn't a lack of effort, because our girls always work hard, but it just wasn't at the level we wanted.
This week at practice we implemented a new defense, worked out-of-system offense, and worked in our serve receive offense as well. All these items we saw at our Rice tournament and felt we needed to improve on to beat the teams at Northwestern.
We left on Thursday for Chicago with a little sour taste in our mouth, knowing we needed better intensity on the court at Northwestern. We are still young and working on that consistency, but we know we will get it before SEC starts!
